We contribute to autism assessment processes using recognised assessment tools, clinical observation, collaborative discussion, and functional assessment to build a holistic understanding of strengths, differences, preferences, and support needs.

Comprehensive reports are prepared to support the broader diagnostic process.
Occupational therapists contribute valuable information to autism assessments; however, a formal autism diagnosis can only be made by a paediatrician, psychiatrist, or clinical psychologist.
ADOS-2 Assessments
The ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – Second Edition) is a structured assessment used to explore communication, social interaction, play, sensory experiences, and behavioural patterns commonly associated with autism.
The ADOS-2 does not provide a diagnosis on its own and forms one part of a comprehensive assessment process.
The assessment process may include:
• Background information gathering
• ADI-R interview
• Sensory Profile
• ADOS-2 assessment activities
• Clinical observations
• Discussion of strengths, support needs, and everyday experiences
Appointment Information
• Approximate duration: 2–4 hours
• Minimum 2 hours face-to-face
Parent or caregiver involvement and interview may be requested depending on the individual’s age and support needs.
Assessments are adapted where possible to support comfort, communication, sensory needs, and regulation.

After the Assessment
A comprehensive report is prepared using all assessment information gathered throughout the process. Reports are generally completed within two weeks. Full payment is required prior to report release.
Next Steps
Reports can be shared with your paediatrician or specialist to support diagnostic decision-making. Support with understanding the report, navigating next steps, and connecting with additional services can also be discussed.
NDIS Information
The ADOS-2 is considered a diagnostic assessment and is not funded by the NDIS.
